hi hope someone can help me, what are they main differences between 1100 efe and earlier 1100 et or similar crank cases, ? i have an efe crank gearbox clutch etc but no cases and was wondering if they are are straight fit in to earlier ones as they might be easier to pick up

These cases are interchangeable to a high degree, but there are some differences. - Wide front engine mounts to house rubber cushions (not on early EFE engines) - Wider crankcase mouths to clear the bigger 1150 sleeves. - Different length of cylinder studs compared to earlier 1100 due to the different design of the EFE cylinder head. Also some EFE cases have extra o-ring grooves at the base of the center studs, which requires slightly longer studs on these positions. - Different transmission output bearing seat. On the EFE gearbox a 2mm wider output bearing was used. I'm not entirely sure in what way the bearing seat was altered to suit this new bearing, but it is said that using an 1100-output bearing on EFE-cases requires a 2mm spacer to be used. - On later EFE cases some (4?) of the lower case bolts in the crankshaft area were beefed up to 9mm. (Older EFE engines had the same lower case bolts as the 1100). Well.. That's about it I think.. Obviously apart from the cases alone there are more differences between the ET and EFE engines (prim.gears, filt.cov., starter, startidler, rotor, crank, covers, etc..) Oh.. forgot something: the gear selector arm is shorter on EFE's..

thanks for the info. i dont know whats the best way to go with this now, maybe just buy a gsxr motor ? there is no "best" way. The sensible way would be to throw everything away and buy a new bike, the easy way would be to buy an oilcooled motor, the not so easy and maybe risky way would be to buy a complete aircooled motor, the hard (and expensive, but most rewarding) way would be to rebuild the aircooled lump. Depends on what you want.
