I took my carbs off to clean them, and decided to put filter pods on. But when I try to put the carbs back on, they are too heavy without the airbox, so even when I tighten the clamps, they just slide right out when you let go of them. I tried to hold the weight with a bungee cord, then figure out a more permanent solution afterward. But even with all the weight supported they don't like to stay attached, and just slide out after I tighten them.
I really wish the whole mounting of the carbs was more solid, and not just rubber hoses and clamps.
I tried to just use the airbox again, but I could barely fit the carbs back in place, but after I did I couldn't get them in all the holes enough and I couldn't even get close to being able to reattach the throttle cable.
I bought the pods already so I really would like to use them. Any advice? Seems like the last place the carbs want to be is attached to those rubber hoses.
Thanks!

Strange that is. Normally the rubbers are able to hold the carbs even with pods easily. Did you have the rubber manifolds off the head as well and fixed them the wrong side round?

I left the manifolds on, so they are still firmly attached to the engine. I am thinking of making some kind of bracket to hold them. It's just weird to me that tightening the clamps doesn't really hold them.

What for clamps do you use? oem, if so you have to use the adjustable ones, the manifolds can support the weight but after some years them rubbers breake, use a bracket or wire to hold some weight

large ziptie between carbs and frame will hold it in place

like baldrick said use a cable tie as a metal bracket can cause vibrations to pass from the frame

Are you sure the stubs are going all the way into the rubber. They can be really difficult to push right in especially when the rubbers are a bit old & hard.
