When the rules were finally finalised there was quite a bit of freedom in the rules. Engines and frames did not have to be matched, just each individual bit available at the time hence the big gsxr engines in XR 69 type rolling chassis. There was even a GSXR engine in a twin shock Kwaka Z/GP750 chassis. There has been some lively discussion on this on iomtt. Barney (original OSS site) and I had a good look a a couple of the GSXR engined "XR69s" and they were not Bandit engines. They were fitted with Bandit sprocket covers but the cases, cylinders etc were 1052. 1127 and bandit cases and barrels would not be allowed in this class as they are structurally different and the pattern was not available in 1986. However that's not a problem as engine internals were free up to 1300cc.

I just noticed that as well, very strange. Still, just sticking Suzuki-stickers on a bike make it quicker

great pics Stuey, just caught up with these...
I know they relaxed the rules but using bored out GSXR1100s is just wrong
Some nice kit but the XR69 just looks odd with an oilcooled motor in it. Well done to everyone who took part and I can't wait to be there this year..
