so named because she's looks a bit like a katana just a lot less refined and cheaper.
So I started off with my gsx600f ratfighter
which had been a cheap reliable hack for about a year before I got truly bored of the engine and decided to beef her up a bit, so I got hold of this:
Mk1 bandit 12 lump
I had to do a few mods to fit it in the frame, For a start I had clearance issues with the rocker cover breather box So that got swapped for the gsx600f one as it sits a fair bit flusher.
But even that wasnt enough, So the petrol tank support brace that runs across the frame got ditched, the 2 front bolts on the cover got skimmed with the grinder to put an angle on them so they would fit (yeah I could have used some domed allen head bolts, but this is a rat and I cant be arsed spending money I dont have to )
It then cleared the front tube on the frame by about a gnats cock, so in went the mount bolts.
as you can see its quite a tight fit.
Next issue was a minor one, Centrestand mount bracket was in the way of the exhaust system, 10 seconds with the grinder solved that problem.
After that I got onto the clutch side of things, now with the conversion to hydraulic being an advantage I decided not to keep the cable setup of the 6f, however It didnt have a gearchange pivot mount on the cover. I drilled a hole, undid the pivot from the 6f and job done or so I thought.
but no, the raised edge on the bandit cover meant It needed a spacer for the rose joint not to foul the case, que an old imperial spanner meeting the angle grinder.
So then it was on to carbs, I spent a while fucking around with some generic pods before I gave up on them and got a set of second hand K+n siamese filters, I think my final jetting was stock pilots, 4th clip on needles and 150 mains. However without the airbox It left a massive ugly gap in the frame and meant water could run down the tank onto the filters too easily, as this is my all year round hack I didnt want to be risking it riding like shit in the wet so an old road sign got used to make a cover for the filters.
And as I had another kicking around I made a new undertray as well.
Its since evolved a little more, Now sporting a K6 gsxr6 rear shock which feels much better than the teapot bag of shite, Its been on the dyno at 106rwhp 75ft-lbs torque and im looking into some gsxr cams and a free flowing exhaust to try and get her up to the 130ish mark. Priority is for me to get the Usd front end in to give me some decent brakes and handling though as the front is not designed to be dealing with what Ive put in her. she has done about 3k miles since I finally finished getting the engine in, been to a few rallies and won best ratfighter at this years rat and survival, future plans in the long term are looking towards no2 or forced induction once Ive got the chassis up to a suitable condition.
Cheers
