Hi guys,
I need some new carb slides. I got some spare carbs second hand but they are slightly different guessing they are off an M maybe. they have flat bottoms on the slides and the emulsion tubes etc cant be swapped , so dont quite sync up, also need spacers to lift the needles. not sure its a good idea to run it with butchered carbs. Any idea where I can get new slides from? Or other carbs that will fit and not break the bank?
Cheers

On a side note. I heard swapping the cam from a 95 into my wp will gise about 6-10% more power. Does anyone know if it has to be 95 specifically or would 96 onwards also dit and improve things

Anything 95 or newer should do it! Yo'll gain much midrange and the power will be more linear. I've had both WR and WP and the newer one with more midrange deffinitely is more to my liking. But WP and WR cams work better with big bores as 95 onwards are better with stock capacity, or so I've heard - no proof to this.

Cheers Kristjan, I will probably try and get some for now and put the wp cams to one side for later use Any idea on my carb issue, the needles were really worn when I got the bike and the slides have big oval holes in them as they got eaten by the needles. I have found somewhere to buy slides but i begrudge spending £47.50 per slide when i need 4. Im sure there's a better option for the money. don't really want to spend more than about £250 if i can help it as i have lots of other bits to do.

About the slides and needles.
The slides are designed so that the needles are tilted when in the slide. That comes from the stepped surface below the needle washer and circlip. There was a drawing with dimensions in the old OSS if I remember correctly, about the extra washer needed to remove the step and let the needle sit in straight. The tilted needle probably makes the emulsion tubes wear out quicker than expected, which is a common problem with these carbs on a 1100W, 750W and Yamaha FZR10000 EXUP, probably some other bikes. It also makes the needle holes in the slide wear oval and the needles will wear more, too. There is lots of information on this problem in the internet, google is your friend when trying to find it. I'm about to make these extra washers to put in the slides with the needles, when I can afford a set of new emulsion tubes for my bike. That should also affect performance in a positive way, because worn needles and emulsion tubes will richen up the mixture a lot at the lower RPMs and cause increased fuel consumption while cruising on the highway as I experience on my bike - it feels rich at 4000 rpm on the road and I can also read it from the spark plugs. Sometimes it stutters at 3500 rpm and a quick blast at wide open throttle wil fix it for the next few miles.

Yeah i remember the post on the old oss, the were made out of alloy turned on a lathe, someone had also made them out of some type of nylon material, one of the lads was going to make them up and sell them to people with no access to a lathe.

old-skool-suzuki.proboards.com/user/369Btw the bst40ss carb bodies on the oil-cooled and water-cooled are the same,it is the rails that join each carb body together that are different. The rails give the different distance between the inlets.
