Just had an 1100 Katana crank rebuilt and the end taper replaced with a good one, was the usual flywheel had welded itself to the taper, usually it damages the taper and the flywheels not too bad but on this one the taper inside the flywheel is bad, it has deep pitting as well as build up from the crank taper. Has anyone ever sorted one out like this, is it fixable or a case of looking for a good replacement flywheel.
Cheers

best to get some engineers blue and lap it onto the taper to see how much contact it still has, if its not too bad you could get some grinding paste and lap it on.

Cheers guys, I've done that before too, but this one seems worse, Roger has just rebuilt the crank and said it needs new flywheel (are you on here yet Roger?). I've got nothing to lose by trying lapping in, I need to carefully take a couple of high spots off with a dremel first though

Be careful you don't damage that nice new crank taper, a rotor is easier to fix than the crank. A good engineer may be able to stick it in the lathe and tidy up the taper, taking off any metal from the old crank stuck to it.

if there's a new taper on the end of a newly built crank then get a replacement flywheel imo... fine lapping it on if they're bother fecked but this isn't the case for you... i'm all for fixing it if you can but a good crank is a shed load more $$ then the knackered part

New flywheel = mega bucks so can't do that, i'm going to carefully take a couple of high spots off the flywheel then lap it in to the old taper, after that i'll lightly lap it onto the new taper then fix it with a bit of locktight. Hopefully that'll sort it.
