Hi,
a customer brought a GSF400 with the variable valve timing thing, I think it's a Japan spec only model (with twin front discs and speedo up to 180 km/h).
What's the deal with the valve timing stuff? How does it work? Can I adjust the valve clearances normally, or will I end up in a horrible fire of death?
Thanks - CC

its an absolute ball ache and will take you hours.
it has tappets and shims.
when you adjust one, it changes the other.
run away.

I have already cleaned and adjusted the carbs, now it's running almost correctly. But the "almost" is a fucking PITA. Impossible to make it run perfectly like the B12 I did the day before or the GSX-R750 last week.

basically the same engine, but the GSX-R doesn't have the variable valve timing stuff, and thus is much less of a PITA to make running nicely.
