I have a '99 Bandit 600 that I bought recently. It wasn't running when I got it and have managed to bring it back to life, taken it all across Texas, and have begun making modifications of my own to it. I recently changed the stock exhaust muffler with a slip-on shorty and I am currently having some trouble properly tuning it. I assumed after putting on a more free-flowing muffler, i would need to do some carb tuning because the more aiflow would lean it out. so I shimmed the needles with one washer. It runs well and all, but after checking the plugs recently they seem to be a lil black (which would make it seem to be running rich). What's really confusing me is that I get some popping when decelerating (which would mean its a little lean, am i right?). I'm not sure if that could just be the muffler or if the carbs didn't really need any adjustment at all. I'm thinking about either upgrading the airfilter/modifying the airbox, or just taking the shims off of the needles. If anyone has input on what I should do, any suggestions would be appreciated.

is there a air leak on the exhaust system that would make it pop.

Thanks bigkenx. That info makes a lot of sense. I'll adjust my mixture based off of my plugs
