I'm stuck in trying to completely split the engine case on my '82 GS1100GL. It has split along most of the perimeter on the stator/secondary output side, the oil filter side and the side opposite of the oil filter. It's the clutch cover side that won't come apart.
I'm being lazy and haven't removed the clutch assembly or rotor. Do they need to be removed first in order to completely split the case?
I pretty sure I've removed all of the bolts on the top of the trans case and on the "bottom" of the motor, including the three under the oil pan cover.
Help!

Yes you do - there are plates across the joint behind it + there's a concealed bolt that lots of people miss that prevent a complete split.

I have the online manual, the 80MB version has much better pictures, save the one page that's upside down LOL.
I'm just trying to get it apart with the minimum amount of stuff to take off. Figures.
I very much appreciate the help, I will remove the clutch assembly and report back - thanks!!
