Hi all, my friend has just bought a gsx600f that has been stood for five years as the owner thought there was a fuelling problem and had another bike. so we got it home and got it running within an hour :-) happy days, sorted the carbs out and got it ticking over nicely with new plugs, oil and filter etc....
So road test tonight, clutch feels good takes off well, but when riding 2nd and 3rd the bike feels like it jumps out of gear, a crunching sound and feeling is present and then it finds drive again and takes off like a bat out of hell, and does it again in third. its too dark for the minute to inspect the front sprocket although the chain is quite slack. I am just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem, and could it be the gear box or the fact that the chain is loose, or the front sprocket is knackered. Ill know more about the sprockets and chain tomorrow when its light and I haven't lost the will.
Thanks in advance guys.
Simmo.

Hi,if your sprockets and and chain tension all check out o.k. then it sounds like you will be checking gearbox selector forks next. good luck let us know what you find.

Thanks for the reply slinger, hopefully just a worn front sprocket combined with slack chain is the problem. Didn't want to jump into it otherwise I'll be tinkering all night lol. Will have a butchers tomorrow.

It will probably be the 6th gear as second and third drive through 6th and the dogs on 6th round off in extreme cases 6th will break completely and drop into the sump.

Mine did exactly what Creg Ny Baa states. Only need to be slightly rounded to jump out of 2nd gear. Cost me a 100mph lap that did. Pair of decent 2nd hand gers sorted it.

Its a shame really, my mate was well looking forward to getting it on the road sharpish, and was over the moon I got it running so quickly, but hey ho, he got it cheap, and it was supposed to be a winter project.
