Hi from London. Just got an early slabby up and running. It was imported from the Republic of Ireland of all places. I subsequently had untold UK customs hassle. The bike has been fully serviced for the MoT, had an exhaust swap, replacement discs, hoses, seat recover and extensive bodywork repair to retain original panels. Getting there finally as it's a daily rider now, cosmetics next as motor is good. Looking for advice on brake upgrades; calipers & disks as I want to keep the bike 'originalish' while using std wheels/forks. So please, any advice on disc swaps, calipers and master cylinders gratefully received. I hear a period swap was an EXUP 17mm master cylinder but I am sure that there are better options these days. I am also trying to get hold of a 5 degree ignition advancer or if that search continues to be fruitless, will have a go at modding my standard one.
Cheers.

Before and during shots, lots of work done to get it through the test. All needed for registering the bike. Peace of mind full service, new discs (OEM so not too hot by today's standards) painted wheels, recovering seat and extensive body work repair. Will post the after as it is now when I get the chance. Thanks in advance for ignition rotor/advancer advice, braking upgrades for 18" wheels and master cylinders.

Cheers guys, you're too kind!
Just checked with EBC and they do replacement discs to fit but will cost a few bob. Do 1100 slabby rotors fit the 750 wheel?

Welcome m8, slabby 11 has 310mm discs, you will need the calipers also.

Thanks Kokolis. I had been thinking along similar lines. So are the calipers different, I am assuming that the fork legs on the 750 & 1100 are the same as is the PCD on the wheel? It sounds like a good mod, maybe with a bandit 1200s master cylinder. Cheers the info!

The mounting points on the calipers are the same(slabby 750 and 1100) but the calipers differ somewhere to accomodate the larger discs on the 1100.

Hello and welcome:-) Nice looking bike...as for m/c upgrades...pretty much anything modern will be a huge improvement over original...maybe a radial m/c from a gsxr1000??
I too am looking for an ignition advancer for the 750 slab engine...slingshot onwards no problem but so far no luck with the slab:-/

Cheers gsexr! Thanks Rusty, again that is definitely on the cards but nothing too radical at the moment as my wallet can't take the strain. I rang Gruumpy's (Grumpy1260) as they used to do ignition advancers for slabbies and from what I understand their supply has dried up temporarily because the guy that machines them has moved workshops. Essentially this is a low priority for him. Grumpy couldn't guarantee when they would next have some back in stock. However, I have just acquired a spare ingnition pickup and rotor and will have a go at modding it to make my own DIY advancer. There is a lot of info out there on other boards like gixxer.com or here www.gixxer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=184843&page=2 This is an excellent how to that I will be following but making a 5 degree advancer. I think that the best thing about making a slotted advancer is that as long as you do it correctly and don't grind away the original plate holes, then you will be able to return everything to normal. The biggest issue will be working out the amount of drilling/filing that equates to 5 degrees. That's why I bagged another rotor and pickup. Here's a rubbish sketch I made that might work.... So Dremmel and files to the ready and following the Gixxer.com post. also a protractor when I can get away from the kids for a moment...

5mm at the edge of the ground plate is approximately 5 degrees

Thanks that's a good tip. Forgive my ignorance. You mean 5mm for all of the slots uniformly?

I mean that if you mark the edge of the ground plate (a line where the crankcase halves meet for example) and move it 5mm, it will have rotated 5 degrees.
