Shouldn't really need it as steering rake isn't radical enough. My old ET used to be well stable.

Yup.. Well.. What's the point? Unless you're encountering real (near) tankslappers, I'd say there's little use in fitting one.. "Wobbles" seem like an indication of a chassis (frame + forks/swingarm) that's too flexible and/or suspension needing improvement.. A steering damper won't cure those things.. Only when the wobbles lead to tankslappers or otherwise seem to continue on and getting ever more violent (hitting a resonance sweetspot and getting into a self-enforcing oscillation) then a steering dampers might do some good in controlling the wobbling (depending on the settings, that is)..

Yep that's pretty much the reason I want to fit one . Frame already tightened up and shocks / arm etc all good . As I say front end v light under hard accel ( likes to pop up ) which is fine but yep occasional wobble on touch down . So to move away from this - a steering damper . So has anyone ever fitted and may have some pics ?

Here is how I fitted mine. I haven't had change to test ride it yet so can't tell how well it works in reality. I have had some wobbling at high speeds under hard acceleration and I hope the damper fixes that. Let's see.

I'm with a katana on this, ET's have very stable geometry so I would say its changes you have made that are causing the wobble & fitting a damper would only be covering a fault Before going down the damper route I would check again that everything done previously is right, suspension, bearings, steering stem if you have done a swap, wheel alignment etc etc Just my tuppence worth

cheers slim -however, geometry /bearings/align etc all of which have already been checked .

Let's see. ah ha someone with an answer to my initial question !!!! will be interested to know how the test pans out. please keep me updated. there is a gs1000 on fleabay at the moment with one fitted also. I think its a similar type to one I have seen before - will dig out a picture and post.

Not to be too picky..............oh alright I am but that ain't exactly an 1100ET front end is it! USD front ends inc the yokes have a much steeper rake which tend toward shakey / lively front end. The GSXR which has a frame far stiffer than the ET needed a damper - draw your own conclusions about that!

The GSXR which has a frame far stiffer than the ET needed a damper - draw your own conclusions about that! Exactly. Steering geometry on old GSXs is stable and conservative as stock so there shouldn't be need for a steering damper. But based on my experience situation changes quite easily when you install a shorter front end. And almost every GSX here has some more modern front forks, which usually means shorter than stock, and 17" front wheel. So if we are talking about a GSX with "improved suspension" it's very much possible that geometry isn't that stable any more.

Having done 3 gsx's & 4 gs's with modern suspension as well as a couple of elderly Kawasaki's & never had the need for a steering damper I still think there is a problem somewhere
