The front brake switch on my 1100ET has always been a bit temperamental but its driving me mad. I bought a new switch of Ebay and thought that may cure the problem but no luck. I can see how it works by moving a contact across when the lever is applied, but for the life of me I cant seem to make it work reliably. I have tried tightening and un tightening the two retaining screws underneath but nothing seems to work reliably. Has anyone else experienced this problem, is there a fix for it. Absolutely any advice would be gratefully received. Thanks again Dave.

I am with captain chaos on this as I have had the same problem a few times & the cheepo replacements you can buy are even worse than the originals, find a master cylinder that is the same bore as stock which takes a newer style switch & fit that

I think there 'should' be a tiny spring in there to keep pressure on the slider - its a while since I had one apart! But forget changing master cylinders.... just get a hydraulic banjo switch - easy peasy lemon squeezy

Ditch the front one all together, just use the back one to show brake light, that way you can slow done when the cops are behind you with the front brake and they can't tell. Saved me once or twice. Just used to reconnect it for MOT. Cheers SRR

And now the next man with an own oppinion:
Before you work any further on that switch, make sure the relevant leads are working correctly. Corrosion and oxidation are well known occurrences in old looms.

Thanks for all the great replies, I will look into the hydraulic banjo switch. As far as swapping for a more modern set up, can anyone recommend anything that looks similar to the original set up. Thanks again kind regards David.

The main point was if the front switch falls apart on your pre 86 bike on the way to an MOT as they are wont to do & you tuck the wires up mr friendly MOT man cant legally fail you if the rear switch works
Point 2 my old bog stock 79 gs1000 never had a front switch as stock & no place for one, you learn to use the rear to bring the light on if not to actually brake

on a GS1000 you NEED the rear brake if you want to slow down, the front brake is crap

Have to agree that I've been running my ET without a front switch since 97 and with decent brakes since 03 without issues.
