So, I've had my B12 for a week now. I rode it home from London, ran sweet as a nut, used it for work a few times last week, and it was all good. Yesterday, I went out for a little burble and that's where it went downhill. I came up behind a car just as I was leaving a village, he had just pulled out of a junction so was only going slow, I went to pass him and gave it a fistful in second gear, I revved it to about 9k in second, when I changed into 3rd it started spluttering and missing. It did this for the rest of my short ride home. I decided to risk it this morning, and use it for work. It fired on the button and ticked over fine, then as soon as I pulled away it started again, it feels like it's running on 3 cylinders, but it's not. It will rev right trough to the redline but it' missing and spluttering all the way through. I' sure it's fuel related as it stinks of petrok, and it used a quarter of a tank of juice to do 17 miles... The 2 outer header pipes have gone blue, the middle ones are fine, all 4 are running at the same temperature. It has had the jetting played with, so not guaranteed to be right, but it ran fine for all last week. Anyone got any ideas ?

Did the bandit go on reserve for a period of time? Might be debris that was sucked down in to the carbs. Maybe fowling the needle float on one of the carbs. The needle might not be seating correctly as a result thus affecting your fuel metering and giving a strong smell of petrol. Is there any fuel leaking from the overflow pipes? Carbs may need a clean and the use of an inline filter recommended.
'The 2 outer header pipes have gone blue'
Second thing, it could be a coil breaking down. Can be hard to tell the difference between a bike running on 2 and running on 3 if it's happening intermittently and driving it hard.

The coil was my first line of thought, backed up by the pipes blueing up... But the smell of petrol made me start thinking otherwise. I just went out to have a look, but I can't even find my bloody plug spanner There are no fuel leaks anywhere, and it hasn't been run onto reserve. It just seems strange it happened after I gave it a good fistful ?

If a coil starts breaking down, if may not be detonating the fuel properly hence the petrol smell.

If it ran fine last week , it's got to be something breaking down or shit in carbs or did you fill up with shit fuel ? I'd drain the tank see any shit is in it ,

Try just changing one and four ht leads with two and three if long enough . Worth trying another cdi if you can , had two oil boiler motors with duff ones They will show a spark but at wrong time and place

I've seen them snap the tip off the needle before, bike runs perfect on idle and light throttle, but as soon as you ask it to do anything, goes all pear-shaped (especially if its a Dynojet type needle which has a "step" in the profile)
Also if it's used that much fuel in only a few miles it should prettymuch rule out anything spark-related.
As others said, check the petcock / floatbowls (and float valves) for an shit in them that could be sticking them open and give the needles / slides a good look over too, maybe ya split a diaphram when you gave it the beans ?

Thanks for the suggestions fellas. Ken - I have filled up, but at the same place I always fill up, so fuel should be good.
gsx and devilman - I will try and swap the leads over, and see what happens..it does have dynojet needles in it !
The guy I bought it from got it fitted with pod filters. He only used it for work (in London) and got fed up of it coughing and spluttering in heavy traffic, so refitted the standard airbox and a K&N panel filter, and then played with the jetting. I have to say, it wasn't spot on when I picked it up, but on the other hand, it ran pretty well. I'm thinking I may book it in at BSD in Peterborough and have it dyno'd again so I know it's spot on. What do you think ?

I would give fuel tap and carbs a clean first , one if my bikes a while ago had a annoying problem it would run great then when riding would splutter and sometimes cut out then be fine checked everything turned out be a right cunt it was ball bearings in the tank when someone had cleaned it and blocking the fuel tap I'm not saying this is your problem but it's worth checking the obvious first mate
