Hey all, was wondering if anyone knows what the service intervals are (and what should be done on them) for a 1200 Bandit? The bikes done about 12000 miles now, so is still real low mileage, but obviously is still about 10yrs old now, so any info / recommendations? Looking to do something with the rear shock also, the rider (not me) is a dang tall chap at 6'11" and so am wondering if there is any suitable direct-swap (or almost direct swap) replacements that may be a bit stiffer (he's a bit of a gym nut, so pretty heavy chap too) and also possibly a bit longer, so it raises the ridehight a touch? You could ask maxton to do a shock/ spring to match his weight or wind the preload up on his in till you get the right amount of sag that's what I normally did

Complete tune up on 12000 km, oil, filter, plugs, valves, maybe a brake fluid and front fork oil change

Cheers all change the oil regularly and leave the rest alone, 
I take it its a mark 2, 320mm eye to eye, if so a busa or gsxr 1000 K1-K4 will go in with a squeeze, they are 5-10 mm longer, I use 25mm sag on a smooth track and 35 if its really bumpy.. mines a mark 1 with gsxr 1000 rear shock and reworked slingy forks and it handles brilliantly..

You can't go radical on shock length to raise the bike as it just messes with the linkage geometries. The usual method is shorten / lengthen the dog / tie bars ....... 10mm will raise bike by about 30mm (can't remember which but it is counter intuitive!) As he's a tall bloke i'd look at moving the footrests and the bars to make the bike feel less cramped? |

Cheers all  Fork oil will be getting changed anyway as the bike needs new fork seals. Forgive my dumbness but I was sure in the old days you set / checked the sag "twice" if that makes sense? (once as just the bare bike and then again with the rider onboard). Seems this is no lnger done and people just work off the "rider sag" figures now days? As far as the shock goes... Indeed going much different in length will put the linkage into an odd position (and since the guy actually LIKES the use of his centre-stand i can't remove it and lower the linkage point either. Was just a thought of a way to possible kill 2 (or 3) birds with 1 go, a slightly longer shock (if possible) could have raised the rear a bit, been a bit stiffer and given better handling than the standard unit... |

A younger schok would be better option Aye that's kinda what I was thinkin... while the shock on the bike hasn't exactly done loads of work, most people say a new(er) shock "transformed" their bike etc... so figure it's gotta be worth it if I can find a suitable shock With regard to service parts... where do you guys get yours? Anyone online that does "service kits" with all the bits needed, or better to ring robinsons and order everything from them? Any Oil recomendations? (Both engine and Fork oil, might it be worth putting a bit thicker oil in, or not really needed? Cheers |

First gen bandit you can use a busa shock.
For second gen you can use one from gixxer k7/8 with a bit spacing on the dogbones

For shopping mine recomentetion dont count as me not in uk.
For oil I would say motul, but belray, castrol, putoline are also good.
If standard fork use sae 15 fork oil with an additional of 30/40ml that will make the front a bit hard, also handy with your big fella on it.
