Only the Yanks seem to be able to do a good chrome job on alloy. I got some stuff done years ago, by a company in Leeds. Not very well polished, prior to plating, and it flaked off eventually!

And...I think you may be getting mixed up about the cam covers, (1127 and B12) being different materials. Only the water boilers are, and they're Magnesium.

Preparation is the key , its needs to be mirror polished ( and i mean MIRROR ) , then triple plated (copper / nickel / chromium )for it to have a chance of lasting. Personally i'd go with the chrome powdercoat advice , the last thing you want is chrome flaking off inside the came cover - you'll lunch the cams in seconds.... Lee

im a yank and i say dont chrome it, please. personally i hate chrome because of the way most bikes are built in the US.(i am an "a"typical 'yank', thats why im on OSS)
anyway chrome always ages like shiet on anything, especially aluminum. always chips and pits. my advise is to polish it or go with the powdercoat

like Lee has said.....the crome will flake of on the inside....
I stripped an EFE motor that had a bottom end noise........"that had a chrome cover" as soon as i took the cover of i could see what the cause of the problem had been...........

Other option is aerocoat. I have an efe cover in their chrome/ polished alloy finish. seems pretty damned good to me.
likely cheaper too
