Hi there, i've got a gs 1000 thats not on the road at the moment due to some major modification. However when i did last have it on the road i was suffering some problems with the starter clutch slipping and making a horrible clanging noise. Im just wondering if anybody out there has suffered the same problem and if there is any known cures? I have replaced rollers, plungers and springs all to no evail.

sounds like the rotor is spinning on the crank. remove it, clean and degrease it. lap the rotor on the crank using valve grinding paste. clean it up again, apply a small amount of loctite bearing fit and refit rotor. apply threadlock to the bolt and TORQUE it correctly

Make sure your battery is man enough to spin the motor at a good speed as the clutch can sometimes slip with low power. On the starter clutch itself the springs/plungers try to push their way through the casing so that should be sound
