When I get rid of my SRAD 750 later this year, I'm going to be looking at getting an early Bandit 12 - do they have any specific weak spots or anything to look out for when buying one? Any bits of the frame have a tendency to rust? Any cack-handed-previous-owner-typical-bodges to look out for?
Cheers, Martin

all of the above!!! i suppose it is best to look for one as close as standard, cosmetically they will be a little tatty but not too bad, i would stay away from something that has faded 'bling' bolted to it (anodised crap), sensible mods only....and have a look at the suzuki bandit forum, plenty of advice and horror stories there!!

the worst thing about bandits it the muppet previous owners, ive had 12 now, and ive just sold a 96 1200 with 62K on it for a grand, and it ran like a new one, and i had a 14k miler unseen off of ebay that was completely trashed, every bearing in the wheels and frame was shot,, my shiney one is 17 years old and better than new now,,as long as they dont smoke, rattle or whine in gear under load its probably OK... the rest is easily fixed. Just dont pay tooo much as there are good cheap ones out there

Thanks fellas, that's pretty much what I thought - good engine and non-rusty frame will do me - anything else is just a haggling point!

Only other thing i would check is the tank do suffer from rust at the bottom and is quite hard to find a good second hand one .

The front engine mount cross tube can also rot.

I guess it gets all the road crap flung at it? Can use that one as a haggling point if I come across one - I have a welder and I'm not afraid to use it!!

main thing i find,is the header bolts, as if been in there to long, u end up snapping them, oil cooler leaking, front tube on frame, exhaust downpipe,on collector box,

just remembered that you should check the condition of the oil return pipes at the front of the engine, mine were well rotted, head off job to replace them!!
