Why don't you have the paint chemically removed for peace of mind ? Do a lot of work with a plating company and talking to the main techy guy he said there may be a problem with the joints being bronze welded reacting to chemical also chemical could rot from inside if it got into tubes. Mine does have small holes every now and again which I assume is for gas release when bronze welding
The only place I've found is Harris who offer stripping and coating service ,just looking for other options Thanks reply

Normally Martin frames aren't welded but soldered.

Bronze welding is used because of the tube material. The tube composition would cause localised hardening if it were to be welded which could lead to cracking
Bronze welding does not melt the tube like a steel weld, but flows around it effectively acting like a glue It also allows a certain amount of flexibility in the joint

if the frame had been welded,it would then need to be heat treated to stop it being brittle at the joints this proces would be ok for a majour manafacturer but expensive for a small time operater/producer and then make the frames far to expensive.

Not much, frame and swinger are back on the dining room table At the moment I'm pulling, hacking, chipping and sanding my way through four layers of paint and fillers on the tank/seat to get a good base for the new paint. Shite, can't upload pictures from my phone... EDIT There ! /EDIT
