With the nice weather I have kicked up a gear and have been in the garage whenever possible I finished off messing around with the subframe and bolted it all together. I put the plastics on, popped the engine in place and balanced the exhaust to get a bit of an idea and to increase my motivation. I think the subframe needs a bit of a tweak to get it right but I'm having a break from it and getting on with some other bits for now. Yesterday I bolted the engine in and today I fitted the exhaust (which need a bit more heat and bending but I ran out of gas for the blowlamp. I want to run it without fairings but I don't want a shitty "streetfighter" headlight unit, I picked this up the other day from ebay and will probably fit it. It won't be to some peoples tastes but its my bike and I am happy with the look! Thats all for today John

Happy Sunday everyone I refurbished my oil cooler last week, an hour spent with tweezers and a small screwdriver did wonders for it as did a bit of BBQ paint My Partner was complaining that she had become a garage widow so I brought the next job into the lounge and did a load of wiring loom alterations and repairs

The loom was cleaned and then I wired in the koso dash and fixed loads of bad connections. Nobby was very excited to watch me working away for a couple of evenings. I moved back into the garage and wired up a stick coil loom I like to solder all my crimped connectors. Next time I need to buy some more I will get the smaller waterproof connector kits that are the smaller size crimps. I have also cleaned up and fitted the exhaust, fitted the carbs and have started to refit the loom. I will get some pictures when I'm next in the garage. John

Morning I have been working away at all the little bits, they seem to take ages and make no obvious difference. The loom is now mostly fitted and I had to work out how to mount all the electrical components as the original battery box was a rusty mess of bent metal cable tied into place. Having never made anything like this before I started out with a cardboard pattern and came up with this odd shape It was cut out of flat steel and then I bent it up with a couple of bits of angle clamped in a vice. I then worked out how to mount it on the bike and welded on some tabs and drilled and tapped some holes in the frame (I still need to rivnut the subframe as I have to borrow the rivnut gun from work before I can do it) I then worked out how to mount all the bits in it and welded on nuts and drilled holes to suit the different bits and I just have to make a battery clamp and I have some rubber edging strip on the way to finish it off. As you can see its a tight squeeze in there but everything fits and I only had to extend one wire in the loom to make it work. There were lots of lessons learnt and I would probably do it a bit different next time but it came out ok and I have to keep reminding myself that I want to track this bike not show it Cheers for looking John

Morning people Warning... there may be some pictures of motorbikes that aren't suzukis in this thread, If this offends you please look away and scroll down until the pictures pass! I notice I haven't updated this for a while but I haven't stopped working on the bike. I will bring you up to date in picture form [/IMG] First I modified the top clamp to mount the new dash. I kind of completed the dry build at this point Without the gsxr ready for the track I took the zx6r instead and we had a nice day out at mallory park. I need to learn to lean over a lot more during the corners but it was teh first time I had ridden the zx6r fast so I was a bit nervous of it. I managed to survive the day unscaved but my mate crashed his triple on the last corner of the last session, luckily I had mounted my GoPro on his bike and he recorded the incident. I weighed the bike and it is 180kg wet I did a bit of home chemistry to get rid of the rust in the tank And painted up the rest of the fairings My mate (who crashed at mallory) pretending to ride the bike, he was making bruuummming noises! I built the bike up again finishing all the little bits up like the speedo sensor cable, coil mounts, steering lock stop and headlight mounts and took it for a short test ride to see if it worked. The problems I found were that the carbs accelerator pumps were sticking leading to high revs, one of the float bowls was leaking out of the drain hole and the screw was mangled, it wasn't sitting at tickover very well and that the brakes were a bit wooden and sticking on slightly. The bike is back in the garage and the carbs are off and stripped with some new pilot jets on order, I decided to try and make some new float bowl screws rather than buying them as thats why I bought the lathe so it was off to youtube university to learn some new skills. My first attempt in brass was better than I expected. I then made one in stainless which was much better, I was happier with that one and will just have to wait until the carbs are back on the bike to see if it seals up. The brakes are off and stripped awaiting new seals but in the meantime we have had some lovely weather here and I have been out riding my other bikes. We have a famous road nearby called the Cat and Fiddle which was one of the most dangerous roads in the UK for many years (due to bike crashes) but its been lined with speed cameras, its still a great road but not a fast ride anymore. Here is a picture from the top at sunset last week John
