hi all
struggling to bleed the front brakes on my bike.sadly its the zx6 instead of the bandit.sorry!it has the same tokico radial 4 pots as the later gsxrs though
i stripped the calipers and split them in half to paint them.i left the pistons and seals in though.i put them back together without fitting new orings between the caliper halves
now they will bleed up to a safe and usable level but i cant get the lever as solid as it used to be. the lever will come all the way back to the bar if you squeeze hard so no 2 finger braking for me
ive bled the brakes down to the caliper with a bit of tubing on the nipple and also back up to the mc with a syringe on the bleed nipple.
with both techniques i get rid of every last tiny bubble so it seems like its working but then i tighten up the nipple and still get the spongey lever
ive done this process 3 times in as many weeks and always the same result
ive tied the lever to the bar over night as well which has improved it a bit but it still isnt perfect
can anyone help??
thanks in advance and sorry for the long post

If you haven't tried it already you could bleed it at the m/c as I've had a bit of air trapped there before.
The other thing I had a bit of success with was removing the reservoir cap and gently tapping the calipers with a rubber mallet.
Good luck.

Are you running the hose into a jar(or any other receptacle) with fluid in it?? Also bleed the furthest away caliper(left caliper)from the master cylinder first.

thanks guys
ive tapped the lines and calipers to no avail
i bled one caliper, then the other, then went back to the first and so on
ive got a small one way valve brake bleeding kit so no jar.

with regards to bleeding the mc. the mc has no nipple.ive pumped the lever, held it closed and cracked the mc banjo bolt open but that made no difference.is there any other way to do it?

Matt, have you used a brake bleeder pump ? I don't mean a syringe. It really pulls the fluid through and gets rid of the bubbles. Don't know what else to suggest mate.

i tried using one dude but it didnt do much to be honest
the strange thing is ive eliminated the bubbles. when i pump the lever and push the fluid out the caliper, the fluid is free of bubbles. equally when i push the fluid up to the MC, no bubbles come up

So all it can really be is flex then??

rich are you suggesting the lack of braking power is flex in the lines? seems unlikely since they worked fine before i disconnected the calipers. not that ive got any better ideas
bonzo,i will try the mc trick again as ive only tried it once
i will check the pistons. the brakes work well, its just the bite is further in the lever travel and not as sharp as it should be

Yankee - when you say 'a safe and usable level' - are the pistons actually being pressed against the brake disc? or are they sticking?

im not sure i understand the question?
the brakes work well and are strong, they just arent as strong as they SHOULD be and the biting point is much later in the lever travel than it should be.

Okay, that's what I wanted to check - that they work (the pistons are actually moving). No fluid leaking anywhere? Is the fluid fresh?

fluid came out a brand new bottle bought yesterday. no leaks. the brakes will stay consistent now as they are. so they wont get any better or worse.
