I thought it was that a bit of oil down the bore would up the figures because the oil helped to seal the rings/bore. yep

massive reading, I think that you have sticky rings, if them were broken, you shouldn't get such a high reading. Before you get the engine apart, maybe an idea, to use forte motor flush

Worth a try. Another thing I noticed was that headers 1,2,4 had like a white soot but #3 was black. About to google that one to see what it tells me

Just thinking mate, How many miles has the engine got on it? I would be thinking of changing all the plugs, air filter and putting a big dose of fuel / carb cleaner in the bike first, checking all the wiring/ht leads and caps. If no 3 pot is sooty the valves might be gummed up and not sealing properly, before you start ripping the motor apart I would check all these mate.

Can't recall of the top of my head. Last time I took the plugs out they were all chestnutty & my exhaust was the same colour in each pipe.

DR8ES plugs & I've only just completed 1500 miles & it's had 2 oil changes because it had a leak so gave it fresh oil but it hasn't dropped level that I can see so not topped it up again yet.

Hiya mate, the more you tell me, and the fact your not using hardly any oil keeps pointing me to air/fuel/plugs/ht/coil problems and the fact that #3 plug is fouled would make me think about gumming up in #3 cyclinder/pot. These are the easiest and cheapest to fix, so that's where I would start. If that doesn't fix it then I would lift the engine out. Where about in Southampton are you? I am in Lordswood mate.

Bassett green, I don't recal the plug being fouled, just a black exhaust downpipe. When I started it up to warm it for the compression test it started with a huge bang lol. It would run but cut out often & it needs more revs to idle than before. I could hear it misfiring too. I have some spare plugs I may try.

Hiya mate, when I said fouled referring to the black soot on no3 plug you mentioned earlier in the thread. Figured you were in Southampton because I am sure I seen your bike before, might have even met you, either that or you've just got yourself a stalker.
