Given that it's all genuine parts it is still cheaper but not as cheap as I'd like.

The bits will be here tomorrow, just paid import vat & clearance fee £25.87 so a lot less than expected £255 spent, the cost of a used 750 lump but with fresh bill of health . So happy to know I'll be enjoying it again soon.

The croppers are my mates who brought them round sat as he had his bike chained in his garage with them next to it lol. The engine isn't bolted in, & it's because it's a hell of a lot lighter, it shouldn't be a problem fitting whilst in the bike, after all it came off ok in it. Oh the metal case, golf clubs are waiting to be dumped

I discovered a very similar problem on my 86 750 recently during my curent restoration. I had purchased a decent compression tester to test my old motor just to see if there were any major issues with it before I put it back in the frame. I was not happy to find that my #3 cylinder was down to 90 PSIG. I tested several times dry and wet but it looked like surgey was in my future. I read a posting somewhere that suggested that I first check the valve lash and make sure they were all in spec before I pulled the heads. They appeared to all be tight (30,000 miles, go figure) so I set them to the max (0.015") and tested again, problem solved. It's still a bit low on that one cylinder which suggests crud on the valves or a tired ring set, but it ran ok when I took it out, and this is good enough for me.

After 1: 175 2: 155 3: 145 4: 162

I wish valve clearances had fixed mine like that. Mine was really suffering from low compression as it was down on power, a bitch to start & right before the strip was running very bad.

So after draining the battery a couple of times trying to start it I stripped the carbs again earlier. The pilot jets were blocked & as per my other thread the accelerator nozzles were all over the place. I put it all back together & after what seemed like ages she fired up instantly on ALL 4 CYLINDERS!!! WOOOOO!!!!! The exhaust was blowing but that wasn't important. She revved far cleaner than ever so I reckon she should be a lot quicker when finished. It's the first time she's fired on all 4 from cold so I consider my rebuild a success
