Yea got everything I need, I went with a K&N filter although it's a bit dearer I thought I'd try it. Just got to get on with it now. Oh just had a row with the guy & his bitch opposite my house because he is a complete dick. She said I was a baby with a stupid bike??

Make a burnout in their front yard.
Or dump the old oil in their mailbox.
Or both.

It was over parking, he don't like me parking my van or car outside his house on the odd occasion for a couple of hours. A guy from my company is friends with my neighbour & that tosser came knocking on my door telling me to tell them to move their van so I told him to piss off & go next door. Then I had a big row with him & his moose as he won't have a go at anyone else parking outside, the bike comment was in that row.

Sounds like a candidate for involuntary euthanasia. Or perhaps surprise assisted suicide.

Right, warmed the bike before draining & it was coughing & spluttering throughout. Drained it then refilled with cheap stuff plus the flush. Started & it didn't cough or splutter once, took it for a spin & it was running like shit. I can hear that cylinder making either a valve noise or piston ring noise (never heard a valve noise but lots of rings lol). So if that stuff was going to work should it have done something? I don't want to ride it again as I don't want to do some damage so I guess it's top end off time. I've not drain that lot out again yet so i'll do that tomorrow. Dunno if refilling with the Motul will make any difference.

The high reading on your compression test leads me to believe you put a lot more oil down the plughole than you think you did. If the reading goes up, it's rings. If not, it's a burnt out or badly seating valve, or head gasket. Do a leakdown test at tdc. Take the oil filler cap off, or screw the oil filter off, or sump drain bolt out. Bad rings...you'll hear air escaping past them 'thru any of aforesaid orifices. Bad valves? Stick yer lug against carb inlets or exhaust pipe. Head gasket? Self explanatory. Lastly, if you get a good reading on your leakdown guage at tdc, turn the motor over very gently by hand. It may be that your bore is scored below where the rings are sealing the bore at tdc. Lastly...if you do whip the head off, at the least, re-seat the valves and renew the stem oil seals. Check by filling combustion chamber up with paraffin. Give the old head gasket a coat of silver paint, or grey primer. New ones are expensive! Hope this helps. Mo

Fatblokeonabandit swears by it. It's 'make do and mend' remedy. Far better to buy a new one. But...if money's tight? Once you start measuring valve stems/guides, then re-cutting valve seats, skimming bowed heads renewing gaskets/seals ect, you're looking at a friggin' fortune! Ask Yoshijohnny, he'll tell you, 'It 'aint cheap'!

so regardless of doing a leak down I'm going to have to take the head off, so would it not matter if I don't do one as I will physically see the problem anyway.

Leak down test can reveal much, but not everybody has a compressor, air and the right plug to do it. Paint on a OLD gasket will NOT work because of previous temperature changes and is all ready squeezed. Head gasket can be re-used sometimes if new and only if a small amount of km has been done.

I have a compressor, but that's all. Yea it will tell me what's up but I need to strip it anyway.

if the leak down test reveals that the bores and rings are good, you don't need to remove the barrels, saving a shitload of work and a base gasket.
