Hey guys. Been a while. After much screwing around. restrictor, check valve, fresh oil filter etc, and 18 minutes of initially trying to fire the bike for start up and tuning come January past, it wouldn't fire at all. Checked everything except my banking details, isolated it to the Dyna 2000 CDI ignitor which wasn't happening on 1-4. Triggers worked fine, but nothing to supply power to one of the coils. Removed unit, sent it to Dynatek in Montana for review, turned out to be faulty. AFter 3 weeks of negotiations, they are shipping me a new one as we speak. Cost me $127 US for a new unit a far cry from $400 + AUD. Not happy about it, but thats a result of having a new unit sitting around for 2.0 years before I tried to use it. Seems that 18 minutes of poor use is good enough to be deemed out of warranty but not good enough to say I got my monies worth ! Will report back when I have it back together. Cheers

So I've been tracking the new CDI unit out of California. Left Cali on Thursday, has traveled through Memphis Tennessee, Anchorage Alaska, on to Singapore, and now on its way to Perth West Australia for a Monday delivery. Thats what I call Parcel Service. With luck, will be back into progress with the build soon enough.

Something which I have overlooked completely. I would like to share with you guys how the settings for the CV's ended up. Someone like Capt Chaos would appreciate the length of time it takes to get the balance right, so for future reference, as there is so little in the way of information out there, and all bikes vary depending on modifications, heres what we have: BST34SS CV Carbs - Std GSXR 1100 86-88 Issue: DJ118 - equivalent to the 112.5 Mikuni MainJets Pilot Air Jet drilled out to #52 Up from default setting on mixtures screws from 2 1/2 turns to 4 1/2 turns out Dynajet needles changed from std. E Clip set at position "4" Stock CV springs Float settings at 14.6 + - 1mm DynaTek 2000 CDI set at 4' Retard Malpassi Fuel Regulator set at 2 psi referenced. NGK DR8EIX Iridium plugs Dynatek Graphite 8mm leads Dyna 3.0 ohm coils Seemed to start better at and rev cleaner at 1' advanced. However I'm looking for a permanent 4' retard if possible purely to stop a nuclear detonation and there seems to be a fine line between dynamic and static timing here and imo carbs could easily come together smoother and crisper with a talented ear more experienced than my own. Anyone that has spent time around machines of this type, 'knows' what they should sound like, we're 95% there but i'm still hunting that "Glen Miller Hook". Currently I have the Dyna preset to 8500rpm until Im happy with everything else about it. Bikes going to Neil Anderson when I get it back Friday afternoon, for fine tuning to see if he can iron out the gremlins. Happy to share - Carry on..............

Is it a regular Dyna 2000 or the 2000i? Only asking as with the 'i' you can dial in your own curve with advance & retard. With the regular type i've used the regular advance curve on a turbo together with a boost switch that uses the orange wire to add retard when on boost. I used to have the orange on a handlebar switch and when racing i've more than a few times forgotten to 'press the button' and hit the engine with 10psi and 40 degrees of advance - bloody thing still survived - you gotta love a GSXR!

The programmable Dyna 2000 have 3 extra wires coming out of the blue box. You can set your own advance curves, and retard curves which is really nice with the turbo. Another bonus is that you can use the ignition cut and retard features together. I have four curves that I can select that each retard 2 degrees from map 1, so I can tune advance at the track. Just hooked up some stick coils to the Dyna

The new model that was shipped has the additional three leads on it yes, however I cannot confirm or deny if its the "i" model, the bike isn't being collected from the fabrication shop until Saturday morning, and its only Friday early evening where I am

That's the kiddy - you should have a small cdrom with the 'Curvemaker' software on - its a bit course in resolution compared to a full proper ECU but certainly better than fixed timing - enjoy!

What a complete fucking tool I am. When they sent the unit back to me, I 'assumed' it was the same model. Your right boys. The unit sent is the newer 2000i model. It came back without the packaging box or CD your referring to. I have just finished reading the Dynatek website info pages. Fuck me if i have completely got it wrong. My idea of a 1' degree advance is in fact Curve 1 of the 4 referred to by Wombat258. Don't I feel like a retard myself. Now I understand why its doing what its doing. The timing curve '1' is the closest to 36' before adjusting and uploading to the unit. NOW we're getting somewhere. In truth, i felt this may be the case and didn't know where to look for the timing issue given the cams were dialed in by a pro. With this knowledge, it all makes sense. Thanks guys for your invaluable input on this one. The least they could have done is told me what they sent ! - katana - Your right, glad it hasn't blown the fuck up !! Love the GSXR's

I believe that all new units are programable, and the 2000i is actually for the H-D's. You have to buy the curvemaker software and data cable separately. Until you use that software on the unit it behaves like a normal 2000, with the standard curves etc. If you were on the east coast I could program it for you with my cable.

Ok - whether it has 'i' after or not.....its the digital one that is programmable. Strange.... as the Curvemaker came with mine, mind you I ordered directly to Dyna via MRE when I was in the States. It was for an obscure bike and although listed, Dyna had never sold one for that application, they over nighted from Cali to Florida - pretty good service i'd say! And all the horror stories....... i've got three from the 1st available to couple of years old - never a problem! I'm not savvy enough to hack the prog off the disc otherwise I would have done. Hope you get sorted.
